The Benefits of Perks

On my drive to work today I was going through my usual checklist of daily tasks that need to be done when I realized that today is my “Friday”. Due to the generosity of my boss,
he has added an additional holiday to the usual line up. Whether it is in celebration of Good Friday or the Passover or just a day off between the stretch of New Year’s and Memorial Day, I don’t care. I am just thankful that he cares enough to give us a day off to rest, enjoy our families and come back rejuvenated and ready to work.

Speaking of the additional perks here, I hope everyone will take a look around their work space and realize these owners of the businesses we work for try very hard to make it easier to function in our jobs. From the lighting, electronics or just the size of your work space and the ability to make it a “home away from home” allows for me to have my comfort zone every day when I come to work.

As I head to the break room I am given a variety of choices of free beverages to enjoy from coffee and teas, bottled water or an array of sodas. But he hasn’t stopped at that, there are snacks from pretzels to peanuts and snack mix and for those of us watching our waistline we have fresh fruit as well.

Then there is the flexibility of my job. This boss realized a long time ago that his employees have commitments outside of their job and wanted to make sure that we are able to juggle our hectic schedules. Whether it’s a dentist appointment, coaching your child’s soccer team or bringing the family dog to the vet for shots we are allowed to flex our schedules. Work through lunch, come in early or stay late? He doesn’t care – just get your job done. How refreshing to be treated like a colleague and not an employee or just another number.

Happy Easter, Chag Sameach and Have a Great Weekend!
