Who else but Jim Mathis would send a pig and a goat on a date? That’s exactly what he did for this year’s Gourmet Guys food event/fundraiser. And he was rewarded for it!

“The dish sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but I’ve been making it for years and everyone seems to enjoy it,” says Jim. It may sound wrong, but it tastes so right. The date, stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in pancetta, won Jim and his accomplice Craig Ellerbroek from ACE Media a Runner-Up medal. With about 800 voters, the dish competed against 36 other gourmet entries on Sunday, April 22.

Gourmet Guys is an annual food event in which amateur chefs from local businesses volunteer to demonstrate their culinary skills by preparing and serving a dish of their choosing. Ticketholders sample the entries and place their vote for the most delicious. Ticket sales and sponsorships go to support of the programs at Active Generations, like Meals on Wheels and the senior center.
